GOI’s Draft RTI Rules- CHRI invites comments on its suggestions for change

Apr 18, 2017

The Dept. of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India has extended the deadline for making submissions on the Draft RTI Rules, 2017 to 25th April, 2017.

This gives us ample opportunity for submitting comments not only on the Draft Rules but also for suggesting Rules for implementing aspects of the law that are not covered in the existing Rules.

CHRI's has drafted its submission to the DoPT. Section 1 is a general recommendation about opening up the consultation process further. Section 2 contains recommendations specific to what is in the Draft Rules already and what can be changed or improved upon. Section 3 is about provisions for which rules are missing and CHRI is suggesting some additions.

Before we finalise our submission to the DoPT, we would like to hear from you. What do you think about our recommendations as many of you interact with public authorities on a weekly or monthly basis. Please send your suggestions and comments by email to venkatesh@humanrightsinitiative.org. You may also insert comments in the form of notes on the pdf file next to the relevant para and email it to us. We are happy to receive your comments by phone as well (011-43180215). Please remember to send your comments latest by 6pm on 19th April 2017, Wednesday.
