CHRI campaigns against policies and practices, which stigmatise and marginalise the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. It argues for the repeal of laws that penalise same-sex sexual conduct between consenting adults.

CHRI is also a member of the Commonwealth LGBTI Association – an association of 30 organisations from various Commonwealth countries, which collectively to defends the rights of LGBTI citizens within the Commonwealth.
