The Third International Conference on Legal Aid in the Criminal Justice System concluded on 15th November 2018. As is practice, at the end of every conference, they set forth a declaration, which is a summation of the issues discussed and actions points for consideration by governments and non-government bodies.
Madhurima Dhanuka, coordinator of CHRI’s prison reforms team was part of the working group which prepared the declaration, which includes points on increased government- and non-government-partnerships, the need for proactive disclosure of information as well as oversight mechanisms over legal aid delivery.
