Police Reforms: Africa
Police Reforms: Too Important to Neglect, Too Urgent to Delay

Roundtable Conference on Police Reform

CHRI successfully organised a Roundtable conference on police reform in April 2003 at Nairobi, in partnership with another NGO in the region, Kenya Human Rights Commissions (KHRC).

The focal issue under consideration at the conference was, how to refurbish the police in EA from a force to a service organization. The conference succeeded in bringing together key representatives from the academia, police, civil society, and the governments of the three countries - Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania

Significant recommendations emerged, some of which were forwarded for consideration of the Kenyan National Constitutional Conference (NCC) that followed in the week immediately after the conference.

Below are some of the papers submitted at the conference.
