CHRI, in a report, draws attention to dire situation in the Maldives
This submission from the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) draws attention to serious failures of the Maldives government to make progress on priority areas identified by the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) in February 2016. Among these were, progress in political dialogue between the ruling party and the opposition, release of political prisoners, a stop to the government using the country’s anti-terrorism act to jail political opponents and dissidents, a separation of powers and an independent judiciary and freedom and space for civil society.
CMAG meets on September 23, 2016, in New York.
